Black Dress Fashion

Kim Ma - Photography by Ian Harding

Over the weekend, with the help of two awesome friends, Faby Martin and Kim Ma, I attempted to produce an image from a concept that had been brewing in my mind for a while. The biggest challenge for this was finding a dress large enough to create the full background for the model. In this image, you can see the separation between the layers of the dress. Not exactly what I wanted, but now that I have an idea of how to do it, I will keep it written on my to-do list to attempt on a greater scale at a later date. For now, I’m really happy with the result. Thanks Faby and Kim.

Most interesting part of this shoot? This photo was the very first shot of the whole shoot. Funny how that works out sometimes.

Evoco Executive Portraits

Evoco - Photography by Ian Harding

I was asked to photograph the executive team of Evoco. Honored as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies by PROFIT Magazine back in 2008, I was excited to be given the opportunity to photograph such a prestigious team. Their website was being redesigned and they wanted some fresh new photographs to showcase their team in a fun and inviting manner. It was a successful project that I had a lot of fun doing and I am very pleased with the results.

Special thanks to Leigh McDonald, the Creative Director over at MediumRare who designed Evoco’s new site, to Cindy Audley at Evoco for helping me with the shoot, and to the entire executive team at Evoco for doing such a wonderful job.

You can check out the team on their new website at www.evoco.com

Peace Bridge

Peace Bridge Photo by Ian Harding
Above: The “Peace Bridge” under construction in Calgary – November 11, 2010.

Since I live in the area, I’ve been wanting to take a moment to grab a quick photo of Calgary’s newest, and somewhat controversial, architectural landmark.

Designed by award-winning architect and bridge designer Santiago Calatrava, the new $25 million-dollar “Peace Bridge” is going to span the Bow River, connecting pedestrians in Kensington to Eau Claire and downtown. Construction began in March of this year, with the primary parts being built in Spain and then shipped to Canada, where it is scheduled to be completed in late January 2011.

I’ve heard a lot of good and bad things about the new bridge. Most of it is the personal opinions of people trying to come up with better ways to spend $25M to help improve the city. I think the bridge looks kind of neat, compared to the other concrete walkways in Calgary. It brings a bit of character to the city (Spanish or not). Despite whether Calgarians want it, or even care about, the bridge is being built regardless.

What do you think of the new bridge?
