Erin – Sexy and Dark

Sexy and Dark - Photograph by Ian Harding

2010 ended on a good note, as I managed to get in two fun shoots with some very creative people. The overall goal for this shoot was to get something dark and sexy, with the original theme dubbed “Sexy Goth”, but it slowly merged into this dark, punk rock look, which turned out very well.

Most of the time I don’t use less than three lights, so this time I decided to play around with just two. It was nice having creative freedom to mold the shoot as I saw fit. I’ve always been someone who wants everything perfect, but I realized that I need to spend less time being technical and more time being creative.

Thanks to everyone who was a part of this one.

Location: Cat’s Eye Vintage, Calgary.
Model: Erin P
MUA: Sandra Cross
Styling: Maria Orduz Pinto
Assistants: Faby Martin and David Austin

Erin is a great model and always a pleasure to work with, the make-up by Sandra is a piece of art, the styling and creative direction by Maria kept Erin looking new and exciting, and the help from Faby and David kept the shoot moving smoothly.

Open Door Mortgages – Agent Portraits

Open Door Mortgages - Photography by Ian Harding

This was another fun project with the folks over at MediumRare. They needed team photos for another client, Open Door Mortgages. Similarly to the photographs I took for Evoco, they wanted photographs for a website design that would showcase the staff at Open Door Mortgages in a fun and inviting manner. Big thanks to Bryan Maniotakis, the Art Director over at MediumRare, and to Pam Hyde, Project Manager at MediumRare, for helping me with the shoot. Special thanks to Tim Lacroix and his team for giving me the opportunity to photograph them.

Evoco Executive Portraits

Evoco - Photography by Ian Harding

I was asked to photograph the executive team of Evoco. Honored as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies by PROFIT Magazine back in 2008, I was excited to be given the opportunity to photograph such a prestigious team. Their website was being redesigned and they wanted some fresh new photographs to showcase their team in a fun and inviting manner. It was a successful project that I had a lot of fun doing and I am very pleased with the results.

Special thanks to Leigh McDonald, the Creative Director over at MediumRare who designed Evoco’s new site, to Cindy Audley at Evoco for helping me with the shoot, and to the entire executive team at Evoco for doing such a wonderful job.

Portrait – Erin’s Gummy Worm

Erin's Gummy Worm Portrait
Above: Erin enjoys a candy gummy worm.

This is Erin. I photographed her during the same session as Nicholette not long ago. I had originally planned for some concept shots at a swimming pool that day, but the weather wasn’t the greatest, so we ended up indoors. I brought along some beer, wine, and other goodies for everyone, which turned out to be pretty fun little props. As you can see in the photo above, Erin enjoyed the gummy worms.

Big thanks to MUA Jillian Laycock and my friend David Austin for helping out that day.

This is Nicholette. We met a little over a year ago and we’ve done other shoots in the past. This photo is from a shoot we did last weekend, which I think turned out really well.

iStock RetroLypse Part 1 – Marv’s Classic Soda Shop

UPDATE: I am happy to announce that today the photo above has been chosen as an iStockphoto Hot Shots image. I am so happy to have finally produced an image that was deemed worthy enough for such an honor. Very exciting day.

I had the pleasure of photographing Marvin Garriott recently. Marv owns, operates, and is the founder of Marv’s Classic Soda Shop, which is located in the small town of Black Diamond, south of Calgary. His shop was one of three locations set for RetroLypse, an iStock contributor-run photography event. This post is part 1 of a bunch that I will post with images created during the event.

His shop sells a plethora of old style nostalgic candy and also serves ice cream treats from recipes found in vintage soda books. Marv is a true class act and was a great pleasure to photograph. Full of character and style, he is also one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. If you’re ever in the area, go visit his shop and say Hello.
